    I have a coop i have been told that it will hold up to eighty birds. I want to raise pigeon for my self and with my kids what is the right type for me . I am in the indian trail area

    Well, considering there are over 300 different breeds, there's a lot to choose from :)

    First off, do you want something you can fly, or a fancy show-type breed?

    Homers, rollers, and fantails are a few that come to mind that you might like.

    Hey Tim,

    If your kids are young and will be handling the birds I would suggest Parlor Tumblers or Parlor Rollers. They don't fly very well and are easy for kids to handle and catch. If you want a flying breed I would go with a smaller size pigeon such as a Satinette, Italian Owl, Figurita, Damascene, Old English Owl or Helmet. They are just easier for kids to work with than the larger breeds plus they don't eat as much. I have around 50 birds and for me thats plenty to look after. A few good breeding pairs can fill up a coop in no time.
